Long,..Long,…Winter

As a Dutch Citizen it is my duty,..uh obligation,…er…Well lets just say that complaining full time about the weather is somewhat of a national obsession. May 27th was the first day that was sunny that wasn’t also freezing cold, and rain has kept me from shooting mugshots on days that were warm enough to work outside. With the rain finally gone, my fingers thawed out and a full tank of fuel I headed out and generated another +/-360 shots from my two wheeled mode of transport. But it doesn’t end there, the files are much too large, would be much too slow to load, and a 22 inch picture would not fit most computer screens anyway. I reduce the size to 10 inches, add my logo and hope the resolution doesn’t suffer too much. The Next couple of posts will all be shots from those first 2 sunny days. It’s raining again! #%*&!

While I’m at it I may as well include the rest of the famdamly. The Horses saw a familiar Human and knew it was snack time and they all started walking in the same direction, giving me this little photo op. Oh yea, click on the images to enlarge them.

?????????

I have a lot of material lined up, both manipulated and unedited pictures that I will post soon, thanks for visiting.

Yellow Mustang

Yellow Mustang

I’m not the only one with cabin fever, these guys were out for a ride with the top down after the snow melt. I was already getting strange looks for being out on a bike on this cold day, but these guys made me feel better. Classic Mustangs can be found the world over, this one is from about 1971, and in perfect condition. I’ve redacted the facial and license plate information from the image to the best of my ability.

Cows-n-Pewters

When I say that I’m headed for the Farm to buy a new hard drive or motherboard, I’m not lying. The nearest location where I can get any electronic device happens to be a Dairy Farm, and if you then expect that their equipment would be outdated you’d be wrong. I was totally surprised when I was out for a ride and happened to notice a little sign on this +/- 700 hundred year old farm-house and decided to stop. After a moment of evaluating the situation I decided to drive on to the property and parked my scooter between a truck and a big tractor. When I took off my helmet the smell of cow manure and noise really hit home the fact that this was what it looked like, a dairy farm! But the sign said computers, so I still got mixed messages as I walked up to a traditional wooden barn door with an “open” sign. Once inside it looked like the computer section of a big electronics retailer complete with neon signs, racks of liquid cooled processors, motherboards, and rows of laptops, tablets, and the latest monitors. Then I turned around and saw something you don’t see at most computer retailers, cows being entertained by shoppers. Now if they only new more about Linux… Onno_Vocks_100_0576

Just when I was ready to ride again! Not willing to venture out on 2 wheels when the roads are iced over.

Trails1 053Trails1 054Onno Vocks thatched roof, modern house

In my travels I some times come across things that make me smile. This time I rode past this house that had just been finished, and if you look at it you’ll see a modern house built with ancient building materials; brick walls covered by a thatched roof. The beauty of this construction method is that brick lasts hundreds of years and the thatched roof last 60-80 years, about a human life span. Besides only having to re-roof your house once in a life time, the 6-8 inch layer of the roof provides excelent insulation, leaving the entire attic available for living space. Just something to be learned from the past.
